Grade Skipping Resources for Students

Skip Space was created to provide resources and support for students who have skipped a grade, have questions, or would like to learn more from others about how to have a successful acceleration experience. While there are other websites for parents, our website was created by a student for students. The decision about whether to skip a grade is a personal one that requires thoughtful consideration with professionals, parents, your educational team, and most importantly you! The Davidson Institute (i.e., https://www.davidsongifted.org) and the Acceleration Institute (https://www.accelerationinstitute.org) both offer resources and information to help guide families with these decisions. This website is designed to let you know once you have made that choice, you are not alone! Across the US, 1% of students skip a grade. Our website gives information from students for students about the acceleration process, and we have provided information from professionals for you and your family too. We are wishing you like so many others a successful journey!

Common Questions

Here are some common questions with answers.

Skip Space provides videos from professionals/students, online resources, handouts, and blog to support students who have made the decision to skip a grade or participate in other types of acceleration. We want you to know that you are not alone, and there are other students who have done this to! For this reason, we provide student to student support. There is also an about me page and contacts if you would like to reach out with questions, comments, or to share your share your story.

We would love to feature your story or thoughts in our blog or in a video. We understand that this can be intimidating, so we only use information you are comfortable sharing such as first names. If you have something you think you would like to share, please reach out to us. You can also reach out just in an e-mail to share thoughts anonymously. We would love to hear from you.

The student-to student support links/pictures as well as the tool bar will take you to the various pages of the website. We start with the “About Me” page because it gives you an idea of who I am, why I created the website, and what I hope to accomplish. We also have videos for the whole family to watch together if they would like. The professional videos would be most helpful for older students and parents, and the student interviews are for all to enjoy to learn about the journey of others. The online resource page also includes some videos, articles, and even comics. If you would like to explore more resources on grade skipping in general, this resource page will be a help to your family. We have also included informational handouts for families and students. These self-made handouts provide tips and inspiration to help students who are accelerating. Our blog is a final source of information from a variety of sources including students who share their story. Our website is a work in progress, and we plan to add more. We are just getting started! Where you go…depends on your needs and what you are specifically looking for. There is no substitute for your own educational team including parents, teachers, and other professionals. But we hope you use this website as a source of information and inspiration keeping in mind that your own journey is unique.

As we mentioned, please feel free to reach out by e-mail on our contact page, we are happy to try to answer any questions that you may have! We would love to hear from you!
